The VELTINS-Arena is a multifunctional venue and a true all-rounder not only in the field of sports events, but also in the field of entertainment. The offer ranges from comedy to opera – the stadium is unmatched within NRW. On 22 June 2019, the stars of the German comedy scene will come together to celebrate the biggest show of its kind in Gelsenkirchen.

The VELTINS-Arena has also many times been converted into a gigantic opera stage, casting its spell over huge cultural-loving audiences. In 2001, more than 48,000 spectators attended the performance of AIDA in the largest opera house in NRW, while there were more than 31,000 spectators at the premiere of Carmen in Gelsenkirchen. The multifunctional stadium shone in its brightest colours, worthy of those great works.

A very different kind of entertainment was offered by an event involving particularly loud mechanical noise – the TV total Stock Car Crash Challenge has been housed in Gelsenkirchen several times and regularly draws in around 50,000 enthusiastic fans.
